In 1984, a small craft beer festival was organized in the parking lot of a local pub. That small gathering became the festival we now know as the California Festival of Beers, one of the largest and oldest regional beer festivals in California. Each year attendees sample, learn and enjoy beers from over dozen of breweries from around the world who donate in the name of Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (Hospice of SLO) which receives 100% of the proceeds towards funding their free services. “Beer Fest,” as it is affectionately named, has become a Central Coast institution and brings over 4,500 attendees a year to the Central Coast Memorial Day weekend. Celebrating 30 years, the California Festival of Beers remains in San Luis Obispo, where it first began. Taking place at the Madonna Expo Center, the Connoisseur Tasting “Arts and Drafts” features specially selected craft beer paired with specialty food offerings. The evening will also feature the work of local artists and live music. Saturday’s Grand Tasting event will be held on Madonna Inn Meadows where a variety of beers will be available for sampling. The Grand Tasting also offers a food court area, interactive games, unique vendors and live entertainment. An enjoyable time awaits all at the 30th Annual California Festival of Beers!
