NewBo City Market’s third annual BBQ & Brew event will be held on July 18, 2015. The event, a celebration of regionally produced barbeque dishes and craft beer, is among the Market’s largest events open to the public.
Producers of quality barbeque cuisine (in both American and international styles), local craft beer, and commercial beer from the region are invited to showcase their menus for an expected audience of at least 5,000 attendees, and to be judged by a team of local food critics.

Beer Tasting -- $25
Beer Tasting VIP -- $40

VENDORS AND COMPETITORS
Beer: To enter the homebrewing competition, you must register in advance. All beer will be judged and the winner will be crowned the NewBo Beer Boss, receive a medal, a commemorative apron, and be featured on our website. This contest is open to amateur brewers. The following are ineligible
i. Persons who have not yet reached their twenty-first birthday as of the event date
ii. Persons who are affiliated with a commercial brewing establishment. The beer entered must have been produced by the amateur brewer on their own equipment.
A maximum of two brewers and one beer can be attached to each entry. Brewers are allowed a maximum of two entries. Brewers must provide: A minimum of five gallons (kegged or bottled) of each beer entry. Glassware is provided for tasters. You must supply your own dispensing equipment. Each entry will be provided with one-half of an eight-foot foldable table and one chair. There will be two entries at each table Entries will be limited to a maximum of 24. There are no style restrictions. The brewer or brewer’s representative must remain at the serving table for the duration of the event, unless he or she runs out of beer to serve. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of any prizes.
There will be two separate contests which run concurrently (judged and peoples' choice).
a. Judged Competition: A panel of three (3) judges will rank each entry based on a BJCP judging form. Because there are no style limitations on our event, there will not be individual categories. Judging order will be determined by random draw. A Steward will be responsible for delivering the beer to the judging table. The brewer whose entry earns the highest score will win at minimum $50 worth of NewBo City Market Chicken Scratch gift certificiates. Other prizes will be announced should they become available.
b. Peoples' Choice Competition: Each attendee that purchases a beer tasting ticket will be issues one (1) peoples' choice voting ticket. Attendees may use that ticket to vote for his or her favorite homebrewed beer. The entry with the most votes at the end of the event will receive the title of 'NewBo Brew Boss." Other prizes will be announced should they become available.
BBQ Vending All local and regional food producers may register to vend during the event as long as they are licensed to do so. The fee to vend food during the event is $60. If you do not have the proper licensing to vend food, you may apply for a Temporary Food Service license with the Linn County Public Health. This MUST be done and your license must be displayed during the BBQ & Brew event. BBQ Competition All BBQ food vendors may also enter an optional contest to be crowned the NewBo BBQ Boss, earn a trophy, a commemorative apron, and be featured on our website. Entrance to the BBQ competition is $10. Each BBQ competitor may submit one dish per $10 registration with no more than 5 total entries. All entries will be judged by a panel of three judges using Kansas City BBQ Society judging rules.
Please note:
Food vendors/competitors should arrive no later than 7:00am to set up and be ready to for guests by 11am. Judging will take place between 11:30am and 1:30pm. You will be assigned a food turn in time as the event get closer.
Homebrew competitors must arrive by 10:00am and be ready to serve VIP ticket holders by 10:30am.
Refund Policy No refunds will be given due to weather or for attendees/vendors' plans changing.
