Tuscaloosa Celebrates Southern Craft Beer With Suds of the South V Suds of the South V will host the very best in southern craft beer on March 22 at Wilhagan’s Sports Grille in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Breweries from throughout the south will present their finest beverages to Tuscaloosa’s burgeoning craft beer scene. Tickets are available now for $30, which grants you access to samples from all the breweries from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. For $50, VIP tickets include access an hour early (at 3:00 PM) and a complimentary t- shirt. The event features more than 15 breweries from Alabama and even more across the southeast – from Texas to South Carolina and everywhere in between. “It’s been really incredible to see the number of breweries in the south explode,” said Bob Baker, the event’s coordinator. “The first few years were about letting folks know good beer could be brewed in the south. That’s well understood now.” Suds of the South has sold out every year since its inception, and organizers don’t expect this year to be any different. “We’re really looking forward to the event – and we know that craft beer fans in these parts are too,” said Baker. This fifth iteration of the event, like others in the past, will feature a “Sympathizer” from outside the south. In past years, breweries such as Oskar Blues, Tallgrass and Bell’s have been featured. This year, Southern Tier and New Belgium will be sharing this title. “We’re very fortunate to have had great breweries as our Sympathizers in years past, and Southern Tier and New Belgium are certainly excellent additions to the event,” Baker noted. Southern Tier is located in Lakewood, New York and has been brewing since 2002. Their innovative, high quality beers are sure to be crowd pleasers. New Belgium is headquartered in Ft. Collins, Colorado and its flagship beer, Fat Tire has powered them to be the third largest craft brewery in America. A second brewery in Asheville, North Carolina is scheduled to open in 2015.
